Malcolm Worby Designs is an award-winning design consultation firm specialising in the design of natural, sustainable, and environmentally friendly buildings.
Established in 1980 as an architectural design firm, Malcolm Worby Designs has designed many different types and styles of buildings in various countries in the world, including custom residences, hotel projects, restaurants, shops, small office buildings, building additions, renovations, as well as affordable homes for the poor and homeless. Some of these projects have been featured on television programmes, and in magazine articles and on both sides of the Atlantic.
Clients have come from all walks of life, including the film and music industries, CEO’s of major corporations, sports personalities, internationally acclaimed chefs, doctors, business executives, investment bankers, retirees, as well as currently providing consulting and training through the Homeless And Poor People’s Initiative (HAPPI) for NGO's, Government Departments, Charities, etc. working with low income family housing and community build projects in South Africa, Malawi, and Mozambique.
Since 2003 Malcolm Worby Designs has concentrated fully on offering consultation services in sustainable and natural building and energy design to governments, organisations, professionals, and individuals.
Various natural and sustainable building methods, materials, and technology are recommended, designed, and specified for a project, depending on suitability, including materials such as adobe (mud brick), cob, rammed earth, stone, straw bale, sandbag, lime and gypsum plaster, etc, as well as the more conventional types, such as brick, masonry and wood or timber frame.
Energy efficient and sustainable systems including passive and active solar heating and cooling, solar water heating, photovoltaic, geothermal energy, wind generators, rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling, and waterless/composting toilets which be incorporated into a design if and where appropriate.
Malcolm has given talks and presentations on Natural & Sustainable Building and Energy at Conferences, Universities and other educational establishments, to Government Departments, Corporations, Municipalities, etc, in various parts of the world.
